Fact About the Cross
The original Pope Francis Pectoral Cross, weighing approximately 80g, is crafted from sterling silver. This iconic ornamental cross is not the creation of a Vatican goldsmith but rather of Giuseppe Albrrizzi, a skilled artisan master craftsman from Pavia, Italy. Albrrizzi acknowledges that while he produced the cross, the design was originally conceived by his teacher, the late sculptor Antonio Vedele. Pope Francis has worn this significant cross since his time as Archbishop of Buenos Aires. (Source: UPA Federimpresa) Antonio Vedele passed away in 1997.
